digital age-destroying transistor

Transistors are small electronic devices whose existence has changed the face of the world we see today. The appearance of the transistor marks the beginning of the information technology era that we are experiencing today, The transistor has many uses in the electronics field, but the basic function of a transistor is as a switch that is useful for flowing or cutting electric current.

Digital information in the world is formed from two numbers, namely “1” and “0” or called bits, the number “1” on the transistor represents that the transistor becomes an “on” switch that flows current, while the number “0” represents the opposite or a “switch” off” which cuts off the electric current.

With this bit number digital information works to make our lives easier, for example the website page you visit and this article contains millions and even billions of bits, so billions of transistors are needed to process that information.

Moore’s Law shows the number of transistors against time as an illustration of the need and development of transistor technology. Gordon Moore, the founder of Intel, even mentions that every 18 months, the number of transistors that can be inserted into an IC will double. The prediction made in 1965 was successful until 40 years later, this prediction is known as Moore’s law which predicts the exponential development of microprocessor calculations.

Before the transistor was created, the world was first familiar with the vacuum tube created by the British scientist John Ambrose Fleming, this device is used as a logic board or can simply be analogized as a switch that can turn into two conditions, namely “on” and “off”. The use of vacuum tubes soared during the world wars and has continued to grow since then. The vacuum tube is also the key to the birth of ENIAC, a digital computer weighing 30 kitons and using 18 thousand vacuum tubes.

See some of the weaknesses of vacuum tubes which are frail, slow and wasteful. A scientist who worked at Bell Lab in 1939 William Shockley had a brilliant idea that became the forerunner of the transistor. Shockley and two other Bell Labs scientists, John Bardeen and Walter Brain, worked together to create a device that was more efficient than a vacuum tube.

Finally, on December 23, 1947 Shockley succeeded in creating a transitor (transfer resistor) or more precisely point-contact transistor. Ie an “electrical switch” device that has two gold contacts and will lightly touch a germanium crystal on a metal plate that is connected to a power source.

For this success, the three scientists, namely William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain, were denied one of the world’s prestigious awards such as that obtained by Albert Einstein, namely the Nobel Prize in physics awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for their hard work and achievements in creating the transistor..

A. Verbal and Nominal Sentences

Clues: Verbal sentences (V) are those, which start with a verb. Non-verbal sentences start with a noun or pronoun, or with derivative nouns. Verbal sentences consist of a verb + subject + object or adverbial phrase. The subject and object can be either nouns or pronouns. Nominal sentence  (N) also known as equational sentence is a linguistic term that refers to a nonverbal sentence (i.e. a sentence without a finite verb). As a nominal sentence does not have a verbal predicate, it may contain a nominal predicate, an adjectival predicate, in Semitic languages also an adverbial predicate or even a prepositional predicate.

B. Active and Passive Construction

Clues: Active sentence is a sentence where the subject performs the action of the verb. For example: John kicked the ball. ("John" is the subject. "John" is performing the action of the verb "kick." Therefore, this is an active sentence.) An active sentence is the opposite of a passive sentence. In a passive sentence, the action of the main verb is done to the subject. The passive voice occurs when the person or thing that performs an action is not the grammatical subject of the sentence. Instead, the person or thing that receives the action is placed before the verb. Passive sentences are formed using the verb to be combined with a past participle.

F. Translate

E. Please sum-up the article by explaining the reason why author use the tenses.

The article explains the history and significance of the transistor, a small electronic device that has changed the world we live in today. The article describes the basic function of a transistor as a switch that can control the flow of electricity, and how digital information is formed from the numbers "1" and "0" or bits. The article also mentions how the use of transistors has grown exponentially over time, as predicted by Moore's Law, and how they are used in various electronic applications. The article also describes the vacuum tube, which was the precursor to the transistor, and how it was used in digital computers before the transistor was invented.

Editorial Judgment

In my opinion, the sentence per sentence that the author wrote is very good and very easy for readers to understand, but in writing there are several words that I need to improve, namely the names of city people, and the lack of letters

but overall I appreciate the author in choosing sentence by sentence.
